“The Blues”

I think I’ve been pushing myself too hard in the last couple of months. I’m taking the weekend “off” and doing only the work that I enjoy. Well, not totally, but as close as I know how to get to that point. I just upgraded Bytech’s Web Design Forums to the newest version of IPB, and upgrading forums is not something that I would consider “right up there”. Still, it was one of those things that just kept getting put off while other work was done. The forums mean a lot to me, and maintaining them is just part of the whole thing. Sort of like cooking your favourite meal, but turning the kitchen into a disaster in the process. You have to take the bad with the good, or you get nothing.

My mind has been conjuring thoughts of the next skin I’ll develop for IPB. I decided to split my idea into two releases. I am envisioning quite an ambitious project and it will get completed sooner if I can break things down into two versions. The rush from the release of the Mocha Skin was very nice, and the community response was great. At the same time, the release with the credit back to our website significantly improved our search engine rankings. Another skin of a higher caliber should push us onto the first page of search results for at least a couple important search phrases, but I’ll know for sure only after “Licht” is actually released.

“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgement will be surer.” (Quotation from Leonardo da Vinci, whom I think may have known a thing or two about maintaining creativity and drive for his work :))

Who’s this “Leonardo da Vinci” you speak of? :)

Sometimes it’s still hard to compute that to be efficient and get everything done, one must do nothing for a while. I hear that in England they spend more time working than most other places on earth, yet they have one of the least productive workforces. So, they do more and get less done. It’s supposedly because everyone is overworked, and constantly near burnout. We all should have a look at the burnout prevention checklist once every while, - http://web.mit.edu/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/w/c/wchuang/News/college/MIT-views.html - and listen to what it says for it speaks words of wisdom. :)
