No One Hears You Scream
Sunday, August 6th, 2006With the Internet down at my office for 32 hours, my online addiction is becoming very apparent. Everything I do somehow leads to the Internet.
I wanted to install mySQL server, but need to download it first.
What’s the weather going to be like? Let me just go to www… never mind.
I know: I’ll write an article about Internet file types. “… GIF files are capable of 256 colours, PNG of millions”. How many millions? I don’t know, let’s look it up… D’OH!”
Enemy Territory it is, it’s been a while since I played an online game.
Back ups. I’ll automate my backups using Keep. I open up Synaptic - a Linux software installation manager - to download and install Keep, but am reminded of my lack of an Internet connection.
The invoicing system I’ve been writing could use a few hours of my time. Too bad I need access to my online mysql database.
That’s bloody it! I’m calling the cable company to see if they can fix me up with their service since DSL is out. What’s their number? I don’t know, their website is down.
Did I tell you yet that my Internet is down? Maybe what I really need is a 12 step program for Internet addicts, but I’m not sure how to find one without the Internet. I’ll suffer in silence, because no one can hear you scream when your Internet is down.
