Things Are Falling Into Place

I never did get to sit down and play around with Word Press like I planned to. I was thinking of one, nice long session during which I download other blogging software and compare it real time with Word Press and one another. Still, the limited exposure to my current choice has started to grow on me. Hopefully this portion of the early start phase is coming to a close.

I have a ton of ideas for the blog, but not that much time in which to execute them. It looks like I will start with the content portion while keeping the default look. I tried a couple of skins, but they all were missing something. Nothing worse than changing some options in Word Press and later realising that they did not take effect or are not showing because a skin is not complete or broken. I’ll spare myself those kind of problems until I have time to deal with them.

So, what do I have in mind for the content portion of the blog?

Turbulent Start

By nature, choice is a good thing. One quick look into my life and you may quickly form a doubt or two as to what choice’s nature really is. Good or bad? Let me illustrate:

A couple of weeks ago my portable MP3 player died. If you’ve seen the selection of MP3 players these days, you’ll know where I am heading with all this. Which one is right for you? Good luck. I’m still doing the research on that one.

Take something like message board software. In year three I’m already using a second forum package type. That is not so bad, a statement that demonstrates how bad I really am. Operating Systems? Let’s see… WinXP, to Mandrake, to Mepis, to PCLinux all in 2-3 years (sticking with the Linux trend for there is no going back after that piece of code is wedged behind your nails).

Connect A (new blog) to B (entry title) to C (so many choices, so little time), and you may start to see that I am not yet sure which software to use for this blog. That is right. No idea. Totally lost. Still deciding.

WordPress attracts me in the modern simplicity, but the geek in me craves more power. I’d like to be able to update the blog via Email, or somehow be part of a large interconnected community. At the same time I want things to be nice and simple, a contradiction of sorts. I don’t want to have too many control knobs and gadgets, because I’m a geek. I’ll land up playing with those screwing things up or what not. This is my blog and turning it into another experiment of mine is not what I am after right now.

If you’ve used a couple or more of the more popular blog packages, drop me a comment with some of your likes and dislikes of specific blogs. Over the years I’ve found that the majority of my changes in software are well warranted. I start with the simple so I can get a hang of the basic features, and then I move onto more powerful and more complex solutions as I establish a method of operation. While the process is important you can’t blame me for trying to shorten it a bit here and there.

Just What the Web Needs…

… another blog! You’d think running a couple of message boards would be enough space to express my thoughts and ideas. But nooooo, here I am with a blog to boot. What can I say? I’m addicted to the Web and this is just another way to get that much needed shot of zeros and ones.

So what is this blog all about? Web design, the web, and a small piece of myself are most likely to weave its fabric, but I will let time answer that one with certainty.

I hope to start things of with a healthy dose of interesting content, and some unique flare and presentation. Seeing that I am a webmaster and all, it’s only logical that I tear appart all the code and build it in my own image, wouldn’t you agree? :)
